About Mountain Home
Mountain Home is the county seat of Baxter County, Arkansas. The city was incorporated in 1888 and its name at that time was Rapp's Barren.
Mountain Home is surrounded by two huge lakes, three amazing rivers and the Ozark National Forest. Its location offers a great place for a vacation of for retirement. The twin lakes--Norfork and Bull Shoals offer the best outdoor recreation opportunities in America. One can also admire the lake from chartered boats and ferries. Here you can scuba dive, water ski, ride a boat, spear fish, trout fish or canoe.
The Ozark National Forest provides hiking, hunting and camping opportunities as well. The natural beauty in this area is unmatched. Residents are also a great treasure, Mountain Home being named repeatedly the Volunteer Community of the Year.
Mountain Home hosts many restaurants, churches, shopping, parks, medical facilities, a college campus and three 18 hole golf courses. This city is a great spot for tourists because it has so many recreational venues for outdoor activities. Mountain Home still has the air of a small town with friendly locals. Bull Shoals-White River State Park, located just below Bull Shoals Dam offers many events, nature programs, and tours throughout the year.
From the top of the Top O' The Ozarks Tower one can have a long range view of all the sites. Mountain Home also has a movie theatre, three bowling alleys and a year-round indoor swimming pool.
This town is proud to have accommodated a few notable residents such as: Richard Antrim - an American naval officer, Wes Bentley - an American film actor, Richard A. Knaak - an American author, Derin McMains - a Minor League Baseball Player, Roy Stone - a famous blacksmith and wagon maker or C. D. Wright - an American poet.
